Further to the running of The President of the UAE Cup in Ireland on Sunday, a date has been announced for the UK Arabian Derby (previously held at Ascot) on Friday 13 July 2012.
This prestigious event, run as the fifth leg of global The President of the UAE Cup Series, has been transferred to Newmarket - the home of British Flat Racing - after a date could not be found by the race sponsors, Emirates Equestrian Federation, and ARO either side of Ramadan and out of the London 2012 Olympic window.
In 2011 this race attracted some of the very best 4 year old Arabian racehorses in training, including prolific race winner Kiss de Ghazal. The race will again hold a total prize fund of £50,000 on Newmarket’s Abu Dhabi Day of the July Festival.
The aim of this series of races is to help build global awareness of the Arabian Horse and its place amongst the culture and heritage of The UAE. Emirates Equestrian Federation has supported a race at Newmarket for over 15 years and again seeks to raise the profile of the sport by sustaining such a prestigious event at the headquarters of British Flat Racing.
The Abu Dhabi Harwood International Stakes (Group 1 PA) over 1 mile will be put on hold for a year until an alternative date can be found.
The conditions for The President of the UAE Cup (UK Arabian Derby) will remain the same – for 4 years old Purebred Arabians only, over 1 mile 2 furlongs – and can be downloaded below.
