ARAB SALE - SATURDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER 2005

Association Française du cheval Arabe de Course

Press release

The French Arab Sale organised in conjunction with Goffs France and the A.F.A.C (the French Arab racehorse Association) was held in Toulouse on Saturday the 17th September 2005 on the eve of the Arab Breeder’s Cup Day, which consisted of seven races scheduled Sunday the 18th September on the Toulouse racetrack of La Cepière. This was the first year the Arab sale and Breeder’s Cup races were combined within the same weekend and it proved a great success. The Arab sale, which was inaugurated in 1994 at Toulouse, has for the last few years taken place at Saint-Cloud racecourse but this year it returned to Toulouse and the market appears to have received a second wind as a consequence of its re-location to the heartland of Arab breeding. The top price at €140,000 for Lot 14 KAARINE, trained by Bertrand de Watrigant, is now to continue her career in Dubai, bought by Chantilly Bloodstock on behalf of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum (Shadwell Estate). Chantilly Bloodstock also purchased the Sandrine Tarrou trained filly HADIA DE FAUST for €100,000. MAB Agency operating on behalf of new Russian investors bought three colts for a total of €130,000. American-based bloodstock agent Xavier Moreau got the last word for the Jean-Pierre Totain trained DADARI by DARIKE, who was bought for €58,000 on behalf of Sheikh Rachid Al Maktoum. Jean-Pierre Deroubaix (F.B.A) bought four Lots for his Tunisian and Qatari clients. Khalifa Bin Shael Al Kuwari was also very active and bought seven Lots also on behalf of clients from Qatar. Jean-Pierre de Gasté (ITC) bought two particularly well bred foals destined for Saudia Arabia, Lot 39 the daughter of AL SAKBE out of the champion DANSE AVEC L’EAU for €100,000 along with Lot 40 for €125,000 by Qatar-resident stallion AMER out of the quality dam EMMA DU CAYROU. Following a disappointing year, the aggregate was eventually up by 140 % from €504,000 in 2004 to €1,232,000, with 30 lots sold out of the 48 offered, at an average price of €41 000. It was positive to notice that the sale was supported by buyers not only from Dubai and Qatar but also from Russia and Tunisia.
