The International Classification of 2016 for 4yo and upwards contains 68 horses which have recorded a rating of 110 or more (which is an increase on 2015 when there were 59 such horses).
The top rated horse for 2016 in the above category was without question AL MOURTAJEZ, for the second year running, accorded a figure of 134 when winning both the Qatar International Stakes at Goodwood in July in the UK and the Qatar Cup (Prix Dragon) at Chantilly in September in France. This is the highest ever rating that has been awarded since the start of the International Classifications.
The top rated 3yo for 2016 was MOTRAG who recorded a figure of 113 when winning the Qatar Total Arabian Trophy des Poulains at Saint-Cloud, France in September. Conversely, this is the lowest top 3yo rating awarded since the start of the International Classifications. 16 3yos recorded a rating of 105 or more during 2016 (an increase on 2015 when there were 13 such horses). It should be noted that the Classifications do not take account of any Pattern races run during the current Middle East Pattern race season which started on the 13th November 2016 and which will form part of the 2017 International Classifications. Please find attached the International Classification for the 3 and 4 year olds. - Mr. Graham Walcroft, Chairman IFAHR Pattern Race and Handicappers Committee , Posted on 26 January 2017
